Can you believe there are 432 million search results on Google for “great leadership?” The opportunities are endless. But, what does it take to be a great 21st century leader?

Richard Branson, a philanthropist and billionaire says: Nobody can be successful alone – and you cannot be a great leader without great people to lead. The trick is in striking the right balance between empowering your staff and being an example for them to follow.”
My search and experience found that great leaders are eternal optimists fueled by passion who communicate, listen, inspire, have a vision, and uphold integrity within their business. The most inspiring leader has many leadership styles, using countless techniques in practice.
However, according to Roselinde Torres, senior partner and managing director for BCG, about 58% of companies said there was a significant talent gap for critical leadership roles. Despite training and coaching, more than half of companies failed to grow great leaders. Torres believes great leaders take risks and dare to be different.
What makes a great leader are those who prepare themselves for today and the unknown possibilities of tomorrow, says Torres.
John Maxwell, an American author who has written about leadership believes empowerment is key. “Leaders become great, not because of their power but because of their ability to empower others,” Maxwell said.
Exemplary leaders are driven. A great leader shows you how to walk across a bridge; the team makes it happen.
Did you ever stop to think about the fact that there are 432 million search results on Google for “great leadership?”
